The last of the prequels. clearly written after the other prequels, since it refers to specific earlier events that were only hazily alluded to in "Sharpe's Rifles", and that will probably not get a mention at all in the next novel, (Sharpe's Eagle) which was the first to be published.
Despite this, I think that internal chronological order is definitely the right way to read this series.

Another excellent adventure. I do like the afterwords, explaining which bits are fictional and which are real history.

I just finished
Sharpe's Havoc, which was my favorite so far. A rollicking (and gruesome) adventure. That said, the books are already getting to be a wee bit formulaic and since there's generally no doubt about the outcome (there are a lot of these books, after all), I think I need to let Sharpe lie fallow for a bit.
I've also opted for internal chronology (which I never do!) and I think it's the right choice, although each approach has the obvious drawbacks. Ultimately, I enjoy them more when presented with the grand sweep of the Napoleonic Wars as events unfolded, even if Sharpe's backstory gets retconned a bit.
