The last time I had to do that, my SO wound up in the emergency room for several hours as a consequence of the cat's reaction to being pilled. She got a tetanus shot and betadyne rince for the hand, which was SOP.

The vet who prescribed the pills said "I don't know why they do that!" about the tetanus shot. "There are lots of nasty staph infections you can get from cat bites, but not tetanus..." But she complied when I said "Can we get the medication in liquid form that can be squirted down the cat's throat instead of a pill we must force her to swallow?"
