I had created a folder on the device yesterday through the explorer and I did reboot both pc and reader again this morning, still no dice.. But I was also able to load books through my Mac, so it's pretty clear it's some problem with Calibre and Windows filesystem management.

BUT... Figured it was some sort of permissions problem, so on Windows I started Calibre as Administrator (from the right click menu) and now it is able to grab the reader and manage it.

What's weird is in the "properties" view on Windows I don't have any options to change the ownership of the the Kobo filesystem. I'll see if I have more options to give universal ownership when I have the reader mounted on my Mac or maybe firing up a shell on Windows.

So, resolved, sort of. Thanks for the suggestions...
