@Joanna - updating calibre portable will not disturb the libraries inside the Calibre Portable folder nor the configuration folder contents.
Symlinks to libraries are useful if you need persistent access to one or libraries that are on different device to the Calibre Portable device. But if on same device better to move them so that they're inside Calibre Portable folder - note no subdirectories, must be in same directory as calibre-portable.exe.
