- start nickel by selecting (KSM home) "tools" > "nickel diverse" > "start_nickel_no_fmon.sh" and
- do the things described in "First time installation, Step 1.4:"

- After you restart the device, the pngs should work.
However since I understand that poweroff.png is already on your home screen, this one should already work after restarting the device once.
