I lost even more ground in May and my predicament is problematic and perilous.

My overall reading is slightly ahead of pace, but I'm significantly behind on three of my sub-challenges. I've calculated that if I read ten books from my various categories I could be caught up by month-end, but that would leave me virtually no slack for other reading, where I usually aim for a 50/50 split between directed and free-range selections. Still, at least it can be done; one more month of falling further behind would leave me floundering beyond sight of land.

I'll try for it, acknowledging that it could be summer's end (is there a sadder phrase in the English language?) before I realistically can be caught up. If I can't make up some ground in June, though, my challenges will have been torpedoed for the year.
