To prevent you from having to duplicate metadata. The save template uses a the template language. But, the collections columns can be any column. This includes custom columns made from other columns. These are columns whose values are generated by from a template. So, the custom column could generate a list of collection names by combining the books language with each tag for the book*. Or just about any other massaging of the metadata in the book.

* To paraphrase my old maths text books: Writing this is left as an exercise for the reader.
