Sorry for the late reply. I tried this dissertation and it works fine. Definitely less than a second per page.

I don't have a lot of spare time these days, but what I've noticed so far:
  • Image-based PDFs are somewhat slow to render. Even image optimized PDFs (47 MB for 578 page document) renders fairly slowly. Admittedly, these most troublesome PDFs have a noticeable pause even on my desktop computer. I'd probably say about 10% seem to render at a barely-tolerable rate with the rest worse.
  • Comixology Android App. Despite what Amazon's website says, a decent number of Kindle graphic novels I've bought in the past are available to me through the Comixology App. It took me a bit to configure correctly, but by always having Guided View on and turning off any page display or animations, each panel would render in about a second. Downloading takes a while and I can't figure out how to make sure it installs on the SD card, but I'm pretty happy with this app.
  • Technical papers and proper textbooks flip pages quite well and are fairly readable. The app doesn't seem to matter much for me. I can't really make a good generalization other than "some are slow" and "some are pretty good". I'd guess I have about an 80% success rate for this category.
  • PDF annotations are as Booxstor said. I haven't tried copying the file though.
  • Battery life. It looks like I last posted about the eReader about 18 days ago. I haven't used it much in that intervening time, but when I powered on, the battery life icon seems like it hardly budged. Admittedly the thing automatically powers off after about an hour or so.
