It's been a while since I tried that, but that how I remember it working.

Thanks to both of you for your help.
No problem about the failure of the suggestions to work. I just appreciate you trying to help. I don't think that the problem is with my Android device or the Android OS, per se, but just some convoluted way that LG has the operation of the phone set up. I emailed their technical department two or three months ago, and got a response, but I couldn't figure out exactly what they were saying. I just set the phone aside until I had more time to work on the problem. I don't have any cellular phone service on it right now, so it's not too big of a deal.
I tried playing the sample again. For some reason, even after I clicked on "continue" after the sample was over, it wouldn't continue--it went back to the 3-minute sample again. Finally, after I played around with it some, the counter showed the full 5 hours+ playing time, and I was in business. I hope that I can remember, the next time that I try, what I did, or am able to duplicate it. Or, better yet, maybe the issue won't show up again.

IMHO, that procedure is really an asinine way of doing things. When I get the Android phone problem fixed, I'll try the sideloading/transferring thing.
