Have you checked books you have read before the update?
My text to speech works and I have the same update.
Note not all books have text to speech.
Was your entire kindle in Spanish?
To change the language on your kindle:Menu, Settings, device options, language and dictionaries, language.
Now on text to speech, open the book you want, tap near top middle, tap the menu button, turn on text to speech.
Now please know that if the publisher doesn't allow text to speech, it will be greyed out.
