In that case I, I would have thought autopopulating the list was important.
It sounds like:
- Wife has the ereader and adds books herself.
- Occasionally, she gives it to you to add other books.
To me that says that when you plug it in, you need the list updated as you don't know exactly what is on her device. And you can keep that list for when the device is not connected to build a separate list of candidate books for the next time you connect it. At that point you remove the books from the candidate list that she obtained elsewhere, send the rest and clear the candidate list for the next time.
