Its not really difficult. It is a combo, period. Used together to get the best of both, lightness, ergonomics and length of battery. I am getting exactly that. The device part of the combo has not run out of batter for me. And I read hours a day. Why would one pay $300 for something they want to only use one part of the design. Doesn't make sense. You'd get a PW or Voyage if that is how you want to use it, not a Oasis.
I get that some folks don't like the design, its not for everyone. But that is why there is a lineup of kindles. You pick the one that fits best with what you desire from a reader.
I charge my Oasis combo every 5 days right now, my Voyage I had to charge every 3-4 days on average.

Although I don't own one (yet), I fully understand the design.
I can't help but laugh at those who think it is 'crippled'. I would humbly suggest that it is designed exactly the way Amazon wanted it to be designed - a fully functional and mature ebook reader.
