Haven't listened to Codex Alera although I have the first 3 audiobooks (yeah, what's up with that? I am SO behind!).

All the Butcher I've "read," which is most of what he's written, has been audio, or switching off audio and text. Two or three months later, I hardly recall the experience of listening to
Aeronaut's Windlass, which pretty much says it all. Here's what I wrote about the narration at the time:

The narrator, Euan Morton, does Butcher's prose no favors, either. He's good at distinguishing character voices, but his overall delivery is rather flat and disinterested.

Codex Alera I really liked. I guess I'm still a sucker for the whole "Small town boy saves fantasy land" shtick, and it didn't hurt that the bad guys were basically the Zerg from Starcraft
