Well I have to say that I do not hold my own opinions as being sad, my life is much more fulfilled than that. And to dismiss them because I happened to have read a biography of Joyce's and followed up on the comments within it and found them true seems a little shallow to me. By the way I read other biographies, including those of not very nice people; I hope you do not assume that I allow myself to be led astray by those.

I also have to say that I do have the maturity to make my own objective assessments of what I read based on what I am reading. For example, and just taking an author Woolf abhorred, I have no time for the politics of H. G. Wells but that does not stop me from enjoying many of his works and recognising the value in them.

You will see that I commented that it seemed to me that Woolf fell into the trap of assessing the works of others (I mentioned Hemingway and Wells, but there are many others it appears) on her perceptions of the person rather than on the quality of their work. I would have thought from that that a diligent reader of my post would have given me the space to recognise that I would not allow myself to fall into the same trap.
