Game books, alternate storylines, author provided alternate look and feel, all of this is easy to implement using scripting. As people's conception of the ebook moves further and further from the pbook, I predict that the decision to leave out scripting is going to seem more and more short sighted.

I suspect the reason for disallowing scripting in the current iteration of the spec is simply to not set the bar too high for viewers. But who knows...
