I enjoy both. When I'm looking at a new author, I like to have the opportunity (if possible) to try something of theirs that is a) short. And b) not a part of any bigger puzzle.

I've learned that it's fairly easy for an author to throw several hundred-thousand words at me and get many of them to "stick." But an author who manages to hook me with 7,500 - 40,000 words is an author whose novels I'm going to really look forward to.

But, yeah ... those Expanse backstory novellas and short-stories are great, too.

I'm a short-stuff in the morning, novels in the afternoon/evening kind of guy.
