It isn't so much
let, as it kinda tends to happen when the bezels are thinner than your fingers. And holding it so it doesn't happen means lying in bed with it doesn't work as it isn't supported properly in your hand, or you have to constantly adjust to hit the buttons, making it a two-handed device again.
If you read while sitting straight up most of the time, it's not nearly as annoying.
