Cold does dreadful things not only to electronics, but to every mechanical object there is. Plastic becomes as brittle as glass, fluids refuse to circulate, viscous lubrication becomes grout, battery power is reduced to a trickle. The more complex a machine is, the more susceptible it is to cold.
My solution for cold weather: Paper books.
