Usually, I have to wait a few years to re-read something, long enough to have forgotten most, if not all of the details.

But I do often get into the frame of mind that I'd rather re-read something I considered great than take a chance on being disappointed in something new to me. (I don't mean "great literature" but what I thought was a great story or great characters).
