But unless you install the alsa libraries on your kindle (kindles with built-in sound should already have them), you will need to install them. Twobob would be the expert there, but he has not been around here for quite some time.

Though I suspect that kindles that support the new USB sound dongle probably have the alsa libraries built-in. You can check out the amazon source GPL code for your device, or better yet, look for alsa libs on in. It may also be possible to copy the alsa libraries from another kindle that already supports sound (like a K5).
