Max brightness in pitch black room may be "extreme" but it is not the torture test for front lighting. You are more likely to see unevenness with the light at 20% or so in a dark room. This is how I would test it as a reviewer.
For the individual, it only matters if you see a problem in the conditions you are likely to use it.
