They have a mechanism in place for remote activating the delete functionality on a specific Kindle.

That doesn't mean they can generically target all Kindles to delete a specific folder in a nonstandard location.

That being said, it is true that specific firmware revisions have learned to defeat that trick. Note: Amazon had to incorporate the workaround in a new firmware release -- which implies the chicken-and-egg problem.
