Indeed you should.

As I said before, B&N is acting as though they don't want to be a serious competitor. They aren't acting like people who want to incentivize you to buy their product.

I was happy I seem to have so much room to add my side loaded books from Calibre---but one problem. And I really hope this isn't an issue on the Kindle Paperwhite cause after I return this Nook that's what I think I'll get instead.
Yes, since the new NGP uses MTP it doesn't partition the userstore to "protect" purchased content, instead refusing to offer that folder over MTP (which is capable of arbitrary divisions like that).

Effect: you have extra storage for sideloaded books.

On the Nook, it reads my calibre loaded books as "My Files"--ok, I got it--but it won't let me create different shelves for them, I can only create shelves for the B&N purchased content. So if I had history books for example, I couldn't divide them up into Civil War or World War II subjects to scroll through browsing.

I did not see that happening. It didn't even occur to me that could happen since the reader app on my phone that I use, and even my HD+ lets me divide that stuff into different sub sections for easier browsing, side loaded content or purchased books.

Is this an issue on the Paperwhite or Kobo Glo HD? If so...I might just have to stuff that money I was spending on this on something else.

Is it possible to divide the sideloaded stuff up like you can on the---well, the app I use is Universal Book Reader on my android phone. (I know, the FB reader is the more popular one, but it works for me.)
Don't think of it as "does the Kindle/Kobo offer collections".
Think of it as "B&N are literally the only vendors out there who don't offer such basic and fundamental feature".

The problem is that this is characteristic of B&N's mindset. They act like you should feel privileged to buy books from them (because, heck, they are like the king of paper bookstores, right? so why should they pander to you), and don't put any work into making their service something you want to spend time in.
