I use CC on K5. I only have the content server on to download the new books. Since I have so many that Calibre can't manage (I don't think it is Calibre's fault, I think it is the K5), I download books, and then every once and a while, after I add some to Calibre, I turn on content server and download them onto my K5 on the SD card. Then I turn off content server and disconnect K5. When I pull up CC on my k5, I have it set to show according to the date on Calibre. So I get all my books, in order. But grouping by tags is really neat. I just can't think of anything else I need but my K5 and CC. (She says that while mightily resisting the Oasis).

Do not need to search with File Explorer. Just make sure CC is set to the SD card, and you will be good to go.
