Decided to request a replacement to see if it will have less shadowing. Will be delivered in two days. Given the price, it seems the wise thing to do within the replacement/return period of 30 days.

I do have shadows from the cones (each one casts a shadow). All of the LEDs appear to be lit. I would prefer the shadows be on the bottom, as your eyes would only notice when nearing the end of the "page", and I've become accustomed to not being distracted by it. But I keep my brightness at max all of the time. The PW3 screen is dull in comparison, so I can see myself lowering the brightness when reading without a light on. I decided to give the Amazon Ember font a chance. Looks great to me using the 2nd smallest font size. Like all of the fonts (except Helvetica), it could be darker. This is nothing new with Kindles.

The Oasis that I received, appears to be on par with the Voyage in contrast and whiteness. It is evenly lit. My PW3 now seems to have a murky grayish screen in comparison, even with brightness at max. My only nitpick with the PW3 is it isn't bright enough for me, and that's why I really wanted the Voyage. Clarity of text (300 PPI) seems equal across the PW3, Oasis and Voyage.

I'm very pleased with the Merlot cover. It looks much better in person, even the videos don't do justice. It feels really nice and it smells like leather.

In summary, the Oasis was worth the money for me. Not so much for the ergonomics or actual page turn buttons, but simply for the Voyage-like display without the extreme gradient presence (to my eyes).
