I seem to be detecting a pattern here. The touchscreen works. I plug in USB and access the USB drive. I eject USB. The touchscreen does not work.

This time I will try a hard reset WITHOUT the factory restore flag file. I have the jailbreak files on it, but no way to get to experimental browser now...

Hmm.. this time a simple power off to screen saver, then back on made touchscreen work, though not at first. It took about 10 seconds to see my touch and react to it (when I was just about to hard reboot). Then responsive after that... Already better after firmware update, but still, touchscreen lockups after returning from USB storage mode are a regular occurance -- maybe a voltage reg thing as you suggested knc1?
