Unfortunately multi-second page rendering speeds are the reason I stick with my iPad with its fast CPU for reading PDFs. I have to read a great many of them for my academic research, and no eink device I've tried has had a sufficiently fast CPU to make it a pleasant experience. Rendering PDFs is something that really does need a fast CPU and a decent amount of memory.
Pleased to hear that it's working for you, though. Obviously we all have different views on these things.
