Hi all, I found this forum when I was researching the Kindle Oasis...I'm happy to report it arrived yesterday and only then did I get around to reading about all the problems people were having. My initial feeling about the device was overwhelmingly positive.
I found a totally dark room here at work, and cranked the light to 100% and was absolutely able to see some gradient color shifting and also the 'cones' people are talking about. I had a moment of panic and disappointment, and then set the light to something that I would normally use for comfortable reading. I realized the screen looked damn near perfect again.
After about 5 hours reading on the device in bright sunlight (no light) and in my bedroom last night (light set to about 10-11) I'm back in the happy camp. I can't imagine a situation where I would crank the light any higher than where it is currently and the device is VERY satisfying to read on.
Look forward to participating on the forums as time goes on, it looks like a very active community.
