Personally, I don't mind reading on a tablet. I can do so just fine, for long periods of time. There are a few reasons I don't read on a tablet full-time:
1. Brightness. On bright days, even the highest setting on my phone or tablet is not bright enough to read easily.
2. Because of 1, the battery drains far too fast compared to an e-ink reader.
3. Glare. E-Ink just has less glare.
When outside or in public transport, these are often issues. When at home, I can read on a tablet quite easily. The battery lasts 10-12 hours, and I never have a reading session that long.
