It's not as bad as you make it sound. It doesn't page 10 at a time - it's a long scrolling list. You don't have to read it - just scroll until you see something in the right-hand column which is blank for most books.

Could it be improved? Certainly - bring back the "books with available updates" selector! - but as a "once every few months" check through one's library it's not too painful even with a large library. I did it a couple of days ago and it probably took me 10 minutes in total.
