That's not quite what I meant by 'in the cloud'. Clearly I can provide internet access to my books for myself if I want, but that's not the issue.
If my purchases are still available through an online ebook store, it's quite possible that fixes to the books will also become available if publishers fix formatting and/or typographical errors. They also act as an easy proof of legitimate ownership.
