Dryers, especially older ones, can be pretty easy to repair. You can find tutorials on-line.
If I had to guess, your problem sounds like you may need to replace a drum support roller, and if so, it's not hard to do in most cases. If it's not something you think you can do yourself, maybe just a handyman or handy neighbor can take a look.
I did that same repair on mine a couple years ago. It took an hour, and $26 dollars in parts online after reviewing a video.
But then the motor failed a year later, and we had to replace it any way.
Failing the repair option, do you really need your dad's approval? Just buy a new dryer with your mom, but a bow on it, and tell dad's it's a gift.
Now for my vent for the day:
My Subaru's front differential shredded it self while I was driving the other day. I'm told it's integrated with the transmission so I need to replace the whole transmission.
The car is a 2002 with 190,000 but it's otherwise in really good condition, and I've put a lot into it in recent years, including new catalytic converter and partial engine rebuild.
I love this car and certainly can't afford a new one like it right now.
I have to choose between $1700 for a used transmssion (from a junk yard! who knows what condition it's really in?!) or a Subaru rebuilt for $4000 (I don't have $4000!) or just give up on my baby and hope to find a reliable used car I can afford. (Waahh! Noooo!).
And this just as I was about to finally pay off the Amex card!
