As I understand it, when you use IMAP the changes made in one client will be reflected in any other client that subsequently checks the account. If you delete emails on one client then another client will not see the emails.

You might consider using POP3 instead. When a POP3 client is configured to not delete emails on the server when emails are deleted locally then another user checking email will still see the emails that the POP3 users deleted from their local copies.
