Thin glass substrate below e-ink layer is easily broken by twisting of the reader or pressure on the screen. Most covers offer very little protection. I once put my Sony T1 in a Kobo cover that had no give in corner cover retainers. Was a tight fit and T2 back tapers towards front at corners. This pulled IR touch a little out of alignment giving page turn problems lucky without permanent damage. My first Kobo I broke it's screen with too much arm pressure while it rested on sports car center console between seats. Never happened again with or without cover because always aware of how delicate ereader are. Covers are not rigid enough to do much to prevent screen damage. Flexible screens should will be better. Rigid case for travel in suit cases or backpacks offer best protection. Pelican case or wood case.
