it would be great if the epub standard includes a generic "keywords" field in a metadata file. this field could contain a list of phrases/words separated by a semi-colon. and all epub reading software would be able to read this field for the purpose of classification, sorting, search, etc.

it should be understood that sorting and classification by these "keywords" would create an entry for each phrase per book. so a book with two keywords would appear twice. this sort of works like an index system.

it's the simplest way i know of that is comprehensive and non-limiting.
