But fish is still ok.
Note there are some groups that will only eat scaled fish.
Also I love fried catfish. This is amusing because when we were kids, we had a walking catfish as a pet.
We learned to keep the lid to the aquarium closed if dad came home drunk. He better not yell at us kids. The catfish would jump out of his aquarium and chase dad. Then the cat would also chase dad. That was the funniest sight ever.
Dad ran out into the front yard. The catfish and the cat both stopped at the edge of the porch.
We put the catfish up and the cat eventually let dad back in after he apologized to us kids.
Note, the cat had attacked someone when I was a tiny baby. Not sure if it was an aunt or my father. That cat was very protective of me. The person made the mistake of trying to wake a sleeping baby.

Very interesting story.
I'm curious as to specifically when the fish on Fridays thing changed. Big changes like that in the Roman Catholic Church would have to happen from something major. A lot of big changes happened with Vatican II in 1960's, but that was long before your Catholic school days. Maybe it was from something like a papal encyclical.
