I was only able to select a book to sync by setting Views to either List or Details, the latter is best. I think the whole book may get sent to their server.
I found the progress sync-ing to work most reliably when opening Bookari via its Android icon rather than opening a book via Calibre Companion widget or BookDetails - maybe because CC bypasses the Bookari home pages (where the sync symbols are visible ???) when opening/closing the book. However I have had it work correctly using CC-only as long as I didn't swap between Android devices too quickly.
ETA: I also got into the habit of manually forcing a sync before closing the book.

I tried to RTFM, but when it's a PDF it's a bit difficult with an app that doesn't work with pdf too well and has teeny tiny fonts. I also didn't find much helpful there when I finally used Moon+ to read it.
I didn't want to use my Google email, I wanted to use my email that I use for junk. Since the other options don't work the sync doesn't work for me.
I found another huge problem I think when using with CC. I had a problem with missing books in CC and it looks like Mantano moved them, so it's not compatible with CC. Did you have a problem with this? This screenshot shows what happens.
