Did you hold the power button for a full 30 seconds, while the K3 was plugged into power? Did you try using Kubrick with it?

Not recognized by PC suggests that it may be in USB Downloader mode. What USB VID/PID is reported by your PC when you plug in the kindle (look in PC USB settings and see what changes when you plug and unplug your kindle USB cable from the PC, then look at hardware ID properties for that device). Or better, examine this from linux (booted from a CD or USB stick)...
