LOL! Success! I went outside, pointed my Kindle at the sun, and again tried to register it, and it worked!! It must have been the firmware update that did it.
Thanks so much for that. Maybe it is because I'm older, but I love getting these old Kindles to work. I have a racing bike, chrome moly frame, that is over 40 years old! I had to get a tool to remove the bottom bracket from a machinist in London. The bike is still great, but the frame has lost all its rigidity -- good for commuting, and no one steals it!

Also, the 3G indicator now gets 3 bars. The internet connection was limited until the device was truly registered (fake registration did not accomplish this).
