"Das Kind" ist ein humorvoller Kurzroman, der 1897 in Fortsetzungen in "Die Gartenlaube" erschien; die beiden ersten Erzählungen, "Heimath" und "Die Brüder", erschienen 1867 und 1868 ebenfalls in dieser Zeitschrift.
