I like Bookari's interface better, but you're right, there's no practical reason. (I guess I'd better get used to the name change, though, eh?) If my goal were simply to avoid seeing the home screen, there are ways I could accomplish that. Having a setting for it, though, would not only let me skip the home screen, but allow me to do everything exactly the way I otherwise want to.
I use CC as a downloader only and then import the books into Bookari. I only started using Calibre Companion in the first place because Android switched to MTP for file transfer. Before that, I mounted Android devices as USB drives and used Calibre's "connect to folder" functionality.

Calibre tags don't have any sort of heirarchy. I can search and sort any number of ways, but the result is flat.
