Sure, but if they're already involved supporting copyrights for the "public good", then it's not much of a stretch saying they have a place getting involved in other ways, if it's also for the "public good".
Saying that, I'm not of the opinion that the "public good" has anything to do with copyrights anymore. So, whose side they would take in future involvement isn't clear.
