I have a Galaxy Tab A 9.7 and hook it up to Calibre (latest version) under Windows 10. The first time I loaded it up, it went and scanned for other books on the SD card and took its time. But after I transferred most of the books to it using Calibre, it worked fine. But the next time I hooked it up, it still seemed to take forever to scan the external SD card for titles before doing a simple transfer of one book title. Does that mean I should unload all the books and reload them from Calibre? I don't understand why it should take forever to connect and transfer just one book.
