I don't try to keep up either. There is one of me, I have two hands, and there are 24 hours in a day, some of which must be allocated to things like eating and sleeping. I keep more or less up on stuff I actually use, and try to maintain an overview of what's out there that I don't use, but there are limits to how far I go.
I read a piece a while back about a legendary hardware designer who had a notebook filled with what he called "dirty pictures". They were specifications and formulae he found useful in his work but didn't
try to keep in his head. Easier to just Look Stuff Up when needed, and the notebook was a one stop solution for where to look.
That's about where I am, though there isn't a one stop solution to Looking Stuff Up.
And I have broad enough interests that keeping up on everything would mean keeping up on
everything.
