A lot of us either have perfect screens, or have different eyes. We simply don't see the gradients that you are seeing. Now, if a bad-gradient kindle was physically brought to an "I don't see a gradient" person, maybe we would or maybe we wouldn't see the difference. It's hard to tell when we converse over the internet like this. But we do all have differing reactions to things, so perhaps we aren't as sensitive to things.
As for the Oasis, Amazon has had two years to get the newer Voyages working better. Haven't people said that newer Voyages are better? Then one would hope that the first Oasises will be produced with the benefit of that experience.
