I would say, it depends on how often you read in darkness.

If you live in a place where there is always glaring sunshine, chances are that a lighted reader will not be much of an improvement to you. I upgraded to the PW2 from my Kindle Keyboard mainly because in Germany, about half of the year it is quite dark in the morning and evening, so for reading on public transport early in the morning the lighted reader was a big improvement (actually I got the Kindle Fire first to use - in addition to the KB - during those dark months, but of course it could not compare to an e-ink reader when it was bright outside). So the PW2 gave me the ease of only having to carry around one reader.

TBH, if you want to upgrade, the PW sounds like a good deal.
