A bit. But it was no where near as dark as she sometimes goes with the In Death books.

Most of the torture and rape was only hinted at and took place off page.
She's written darker as NR before (Divine Evil and Carolina Moon for example).

I felt this was kind of a 2-in-1 book: a sweet, small-town romance bookended by a crime thriller.
