The latest story I can remember was when I purchased a dehumidifier. Instruction manual says in big bold letters: "Place at least 15 inches away from the wall". Guess where someone wanted to place it right after plugging it in... right against the wall, jammed in the corner.
Most people just plug and play contraptions, and never even touch the instruction manual (probably throw it away with the box).

Particularly annoying though is when I open up a box and find in the instructions leaflet the first thing is "how to unpackage the item". If I hadn't unpackaged it already then how the heck would I be reading this ?
You also get devices these days where the instructions manual isn't a paper one but can be found "on the device". So if you want to know just how long to charge your new wotsit before using it you have to switch it on and use it only to discover that you should have charged it for 14 hours first.
