I'm a bit of a butterfingers so have always used covers. To date, I have not broken any of my ereaders, although they have had a few falls (fortunately not onto hard floors).

I also find it easier and more comfortable to hold my readers in a cover.

Last but not least, like a previous poster, I like to "close" my book by closing the cover. I am happy to still have that as part of my reading experience.
