I'm not clumsy. I'm really just average as far as that goes. And I'm absolutely not careless.
Lots of people put cases on their phones and readers because they recognize that the real world isn't perfect and people occasionally drop things. If you live someplace with a lot of rain and snow, that means things can get wet. I have had tons of friends who have ruined phones by dropping them in snow and puddles - which I have not done, but which is common. This makes me realize that a waterproof cell phone would be awesome too.
When I dropped the reader in the snow, it was in a leather case, not that unlike the one that ships with the Oasis. That offers no protection from puddles and snow. It's also the experience that made me decide to use sleeves instead of covers. Not perfect, but better as far as my needs go.
If you live someplace with different weather than I have, then this might be worth $300. I like a lot of things about it. But I will hold out for a waterproof reader.
Now I have to research waterproof cell phones.
